Domaine Georges Vernay Maison Rouge Côte-Rôtie 2020, made by Christine (and Emma) Vernay in Northern Rhône, is a masterful single-parcel Syrah from 50-year-old vines on granitic soils. Rich black cherry, dark plum and cassis are laced with exotic spices, smoked bacon, violette and an undercurrent of licorice and cigar box. Full-bodied and structured, with powerful yet polished tannins, vivid acidity and a deep, minerally core that adds lift through a very long, harmonious finish. Scored 96/100 by La Revue du Vin de France and 97/100by Bettane & Desseauve. A Côte-Rôtie for long ageing and serious gastronomy.
