Longview Yakka Shiraz Adelaide Hills 2022

$24.00

A near-perfect Hills vintage for 2022 with excellent rainfall in Spring and any summer showers dispersed by subsequent mild breezes. The winds prevented any disease pressure and the mild Spring provided good conditions for flowering early. Cooler temperatures prevailed throughout and as yield was above average. From veraison through to harvest, the vineyard experienced below average, yet relatively dry temps, ensuring a very long ripening period resulting in exceptionally complex fruit flavour. Slow, even sugar development and excellent acid retention were welcome outcomes for the fruit and total harvest was completed in April.

VINEYARD & WINEMAKING NOTES
Yakka Shiraz is a Longview mainstay, and this hardy variety handles the tough rocky soils just like the surrounding Xanthorrhoea/Yakka grass trees. Sourced from north and east facing estate blocks, the Shiraz is harvested when we taste the blue fruit and spice with juicy middle palate tannins. Destemmed to open fermenters, approximately 60% whole berry and 10% whole bunches, the wine spends 10-12 days on skins before pressing and racking to new (10%) and seasoned French oak puncheons for 12 months maturation. The vineyard delivers distinct flavours of blue fruits and savoury spice elements with energy and finesse.
